A Camera for the Minimalist Filmmaker?

I’ve finally figured out why I like filming with the Canon XA50 so much. It’s an all-in-one camera with everything I need to just go out and film something. Being a solo, minimalist filmmaker with a tiny budget at best, I find this liberating. The less gear I have to bring with me on a film shoot, the better. Sure it’s not a cinema camera. The quality of the footage has a documentary feel about it. But I’m OK with that. If my goal is to document life as is, this is the camera I’d take with me. After 2 years of thinking about it, I’m almost ready to get it. But B&H has had a wait list for the XA50 for months now. And so … the waiting continues.

Meanwhile … I rented it for 2 weeks recently and filmed the hell out of it! 🙂
